This training is directed at anyone working in or applying for a position in a City, County, State position working in the Public Works Department in Water Utility jobs. Each of these topics is designed to provide training and knowledge in water safety and functions within that environment. These programs will provide information on how to operate in a safe manner when working in this industry.

WATER UTILITIES SAFETY TRAINING

Advanced Hand & Power Tool Safety (1033HE)

Organizations such as Underwriters Laboratories, Consumer Product Safety Commission, OSHA and ANSI have made major strides in evaluating and testing tools in an effort to make using tools safer. This presentation covers circular saws, jig saws, plunge cutters, routers, power drills, power impact tools, and more. (20 minutes)

Backhoe Safety and Operations (3005AE)

Backhoe operators need to know the equipment’s capabilities such as load capacity, stability speed, braking and steering before they can operate the equipment. This presentation covers all of these points, plus roll over protection, and maintenance of the vehicle. (8 minutes)

Chlorine Safety (3008AE)

Chlorine comes in a gaseous form and when cooled and compressed it becomes liquid. All chemicals must have a Material Safety Data Sheet that explains the hazards and precautions. This program focuses on the handling, storing, and hazards when working with this chemical. (18 minutes)

Competent Person – Soil Classification (3041AE)

When working in trenches or excavations, any condition you ignore can be fatal. This program covers the responsibilities of a competent person, inspections, soil classifications, testing, pocket penetrometer, and much more. (20 minutes)

Field Operations Safety – Public Works & Construction (3045AE)

Far too many field employees receive little or no training. This program covers job safety analysis, pre-job planning, traffic control, personal protective equipment, underground utilities, digging, trenching, heat stress, confined space entry, and more. (24 minutes)

Hydro-Vacuum Truck Safety (3031AE)

Many vacuum truck operators have been injured while handling the high pressure nozzles used for cleaning sewers or falling into manholes. The film includes information on potential hazards, awareness, confined spaces, utility excavation, and personal protective equipment. (12 minutes)

Introduction to OSHA (1054AE)

OSHA was created over 37 years ago to help protect the safety of workers from the hazards of job related injuries and illnesses. Before OSHA existed, work related injuries, illness, and fatalities were at an all time high. This program discusses not only the founding of OSHA, but also how it affects all workers within the US. Sodium and Calcium Hypochlorite (3042AE)

These products are widely used throughout industry as well as in water and wastewater agencies. The topics of this program include the use, storage, safety, health effects, first aid, and personal protective equipment. (12minutes)

Utility Crew Truck Safety (3046AE)

Only persons who are properly licensed and trained can operate a utility crew truck. This highly versatile vehicle can be outfitted with a wide variety of attachments to make it a major asset. Attachments include lifts, hoists, welding units, compressors, aerial lift devices, and towing equipment. This program reviews how to operate this vehicle in a safe manner. (15 minutes)

Lockout/Tagout – Hazardous Energy Source (1004AE)

Locking out of electricity prevents electrical equipment from accidental release of electricity during maintenance and repair. This program talks about “authorized” and “affected” employees, “normal production operation,” tags, and much more. (10 minutes)

Personal Protective Equipment (1007BE)

Focus is on the importance of using personal protective equipment. Talks about hard hats, gloves, eye and hearing protection, footwear, respirators, and other aspects of protective equipment. (10 minutes)

Confined Space Entry (1020HE)

Failure to closely follow specific rules, regulations and confined space safety standards can cause serious injury or even death. This program covers oxygen deficiency, flammable or explosive gases, toxic gases and vapors, hydrogen sulfide and emergencies. (18 minutes)
