BOARD OF ADVISORS of The International Safety Resources Association (ISRA)

The ISRA Board of Directors is a diverse group of experienced Safety and learning professionals who share a strong commitment to our mission. The board members are as follows:

Mr. Thomas E. Vandenberg, REA, CISP, CPSS Industrial Safety/Loss Control/Risk Management Consultant

tom vandenberg.jpgMr. Vandenberg is a licensed private investigator, a certified CPSS, safety professional and trainer.  He has over 30 years of professional experience as a corporate safety manager, loss control and risk management consultant and Private Investigations.  He is an expert on Cal-OSHA and Federal OSHA regulations, drug and alcohol, violence in the workplace, sexual harassment litigation and abatement.  Tom has also provided representation before the OSHA/STATE OSHA'S appeals process, as an investigator/lay lawyer, who investigates major injury/death and non compliance charges, brought by regulatory agencies, against employers.  His consulting background includes training programs, construction, hazardous materials/toxic waste, fire protection, worker's compensation, third-party liability and general safety and industrial hygiene procedures for manufacturing, retail, construction, airline, hotel/motel, food and beverage industries, petro-chemicals, tunnels and mining, and facilities requiring knowledge of DOD & NATO safety and security procedures and anti/counter terrorism.  Tom is a welcome addition to our Board of Advisors. 

Fathi Badawi

Fathi photo.jpgThe International Safety Resources Association welcomes Mr. Fathwi Badawi on our staff of experts. He is a Professional Safety Engineer with more than 25 years experience in the Oil and Gas Industries. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a Master of Business Administration from Alexandria University. Mr. Badawi is an active Professional Member in the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE) and is a member on the Executive Board of ASSE in the Kuwait Chapter. Mr. Badawi is a member of the National Safety Council (NSC) and is a certified bilingual trainer in the English and Arabic languages.

He is involved in the Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA) training programs, including the 10 Hour and 30 Hour programs. His expertise and training duties include Confined Space Hazards and Control, Respiratory Protection, Gas Testing, Hydrogen Sulfide and many other specialties, too numerous to list here.

He provides consultancy and expertise to a wide range of organizations. He is a welcomed member of our International team of experts who provide their time, expertise and experience to help others learn more about safety and health. He is primarily located in Kuwait, but travels the world in his safety and training consulting and training.

Mr. David E. Kelley, CIET, CIEFPT President, International Agriculture Organization

dave kelley pic 018.JPGMr. Kelley is a dynamic individual with a strong background in Industrial Safety. David served 20 years in the Marine Corps and is credited with developing the first OSHA compliance program in the Marine Corps. Upon retirement, he has served in major safety management and consulting capacities in the Industrial and Aircraft Manufacturing environments. He was one of the lead engineers who developed the McDonald’s Restaurants safety program, worldwide. He is currently President of an international agriculture organization, operating in Vietnam and other Southeast Asia countries. We are pleased and honored to have Mr. Kelley on our Board of Advisors.

 

Ms. Ilise Feitshans, JD., ScM, CISP,Professor of Fundamentals of Health in International relations, Geneva School of Diplomacy, Geneva Switzerland

Ilise Feitshans.JPGMs. Feitshans is an attorney with a Master's of Science in public health from Johns Hopkins University, a safety and health professional, and a women's safety and health advocate.  Ilise is currently the Coordinator Encyclopedia 5th Edition ILO Encyclopedia of Occupational Health and Safety found in SAFEWORK, the international program for health at work; which is part of the International Labour Office, the oldest specialized agency of the United Nations, Geneva Switzerland.  The ILO and ASSE recently signed an agreement of cooperation between the two agencies to promote health and safety throughout the globe. Ilise has been involved with so many projects with OSHA, the National Institute of Safety and Health (NIOSH), and safety and health efforts around the world, it's impossible to list them all. Ilise is the author of "Bringing Health to Work" and annually updates her legal treatise, Designing An Effective OSHA Compliance ProgramShe has served on many special advisory committees such as: the US Department of Energy Beryllium Rulemaking Advisory Committee of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences (RAMS) in Moscow, the New Jersey council of Developmental Disabilities Statewide Committee on Women and, in the 1980's, she served as Commissioner for the Arlington County, Virginia Commission on the Status of Women.  She has written for Compliance Systems Legal Group and has served as Executive Producer for "OSHA 35 Still Alive!" and other safety documentaries.  She was a student intern who learned a great deal from her mentors working at the Office of the Solicitor of Labor for OSHA, while the agency was developing the OSHA Benzene Standard, Supreme Court briefs on labor law and safety, and many others.  Ilise is a tireless worker for human rights, safety and health.  She finds time to serve on our Board of Advisors.  The United Nation's International Labour Orginazation's website is: www.ilo.org.  For further information about the 5th edition of the ILO Encyclopedia, click here.

Mr. David H. Burpeau, CISP, CIUST, CIWWST 

DAVID-sans-bkgrd-copy.jpg Mr. Burpeau has over thirty years of professional experience in Occupational Safety & Risk Management, including Safety/Loss Control, Workers’ Compensation, Hazardous Materials, Disaster Preparedness, Security, Employee Training, Claims Management, Risk Management, Industrial Hygiene, Construction and Safety Program Development.  He is a registered Safety Professional and Environmental Assessor, EPA Accredited Asbestos Building Inspector and Abatement, among others.  He is a nationally recognized Safety trainer, writer and producer of Safety and Risk Management training video programs.  He served as Risk and Safety Manager for major Water Utilities in Southern California, having won accolades and awards for his Safety and Health programs, which have been used as models for others in the AWWA and APWA (Water Associations).  It is a privilege to have Mr. Burpeau as part of our Board of Advisors.

Ms. Susie Rodde, Disabilities Advocate

susie-photo.jpgSusie Rodde is a true champion for human rights, especially for the disabled. We have asked her to join our board to provide a greater insight into the many hurdles people with disabilities endure physically, but also emotionally, when trying to obtain jobs. Her input and suggestions are immensely helpful. Susie is an inspiration to anyone who has met her. As a Disabilities Advocate, she is a speaker at charitable events and operates a website for persons with Cerebral Palsy. She is most proud of winning the Sandra Jensen Award, which is given every year sponsored by People First of California and co sponsored and awarded by the President of Protection & Advocacy Inc.  Her amazing fortitude is demonstrated by enduring over 80 major surgeries with many years in and out of hospitals, yet continuing her advocacy, without complaint.  Pictured here with her loyal hearing dog, Ivy, she has counseled thousands of people around the world and operates an informative website for her CP advocacy.  It's a privilege to know and work with this courageous individual.  Visit her at www.susiecphome.com.

Hector M. Escarcega, CSP, CSL, ARM is President of Bilingual Solutions International/Full-Esteem Ahead Training & Seminars. He is a Bilingual OSHA Safety Consultant, Trainer and motivational speaker with over 28 years working as a Risk Management Safety Professional and General Industry/Construction OSHA Safety Professional.
Hector received his undergraduate degree in Safey Administration/ Occupational Health and Safety from the University of Southern California and went on to obtain his Master’s Degree from USC as well.
He works with both the Private and Public sector as a Trainer, Consultant and Keynote speaker on topics relating to Productivity, Cultural Diversity, Construction Safety for both English and Spanish speaking workforces. In addition he conducts seminars and workshops on Sexual Harassment, Risk Management, Workplace Safety.
In his assignments, Mr. Escarcega has provided effective presentations, expertise and consultation to the executive and operational management of some of the world’s largest organizations such as, Honda, Turner Construction, Obayashi, Seiko Instruments, San Francisco Opera, Peck Jones, Hollywood Bowl, Epson America, Avaya Communications, Mazda and Mitsubishi Motors to name a few. He also provides services in Canada, Mexico and South America.
Hector is a professional member and is active in many professional organizations such as the National Speakers Association (NSA), The Latin Business Association (LBA) Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS), American Industrial Hygiene Association AIHA) and has served as President for the Los Angeles Chapter of the American Society of Safety Engineers (ASSE), Mr. Escarcega is fluent in both Spanish and English and serves on the faculty for the OSHA Training Institute (OSTI) region IX San Diego, and Cal State Dominguez Hills, CA.

Dr. James P. "Perry" Huckabay

perry150.jpgPerry’s guidance and leadership includes developing and directing Risk Management, Loss Prevention, Safety and Training programs for major insurance carriers and employers for both the private and public sectors and has spanned the nation. His experience includes President, Priority One Risk Management, Region Manager for a Major Insurance Carrier and Risk Control Service provider. He was selected as the Director of Workers’ Health and Safety for the State of Texas and initiated programs that ran successfully for over fourteen years. Perry was instrumental in helping to establish the loss prevention division for the largest self insurance pool in the United States. He has also been involved in several successful start-up companies to include his own consulting business, 1st Priority Solutions.

As a nationally recognized speaker and trainer, Perry has had the opportunity to assist hundreds of employers and trained thousands of employee’s in his career. He has presented to audiences across the country on such topics as; Leaders and Leading, Program Management and Reducing Workers’ Compensation Costs, Fleet Safety, Preventing Workplace Violence, Illusions - the Reality of Managing Your Risk, Preventing Sexual Harassment, Effective Claims Management, The Customer and Customer Service, Liability Prevention and many others.

Perry served in the U.S. Army and is a Viet Nam Combat Veteran. He is a graduate of the University of Texas at Tyler and Western States University and holds a Ph.D. in Occupational Safety and Health. He is an Advisory Board Member for The International Safety Resource Association, a member of The World Safety Organization, American Society of Safety Engineers, is a Certified Safety Executive and licensed Claims Adjuster.
